Kathaan sa UA&P: Punlaan 1 – A Celebration of Creative Growth
On April 23, 2025, the Filipino Department and Humanities Program, in partnership with Luntian: Online Journal and the Pambansang Samahan sa Linggwistika at Literaturang Filipino (PSLLF), successfully launched Kathaan sa UA&P: Punlaan 1. This creative writing workshop gathered a vibrant community of educators and students from different institutions for a day of learning, collaboration, and literary exploration.
As part of the Humanities Program’s extension efforts for the year, the event also welcomed ten teachers from Pineda Elementary School — the adopted school under the BIGKKAS+ program. Through this initiative, the Humanities Program continues to support community development by nurturing creativity and communication skills among educators.
Kathaan sa UA&P: Punlaan 1 provided an inspiring space for participants to cultivate their passion for storytelling and further strengthen the ties between the university and the broader educational community.











Humanities Program at the Junior College Career Fair 2025
The Humanities Program took part in the Junior College Career Fair, featuring inspiring talks from Dr. Joachim Antonio, Program Director, and alumnae Ms. Juliana Odono and Ms. Za Elises.
Dr. Antonio highlighted how Humanities skills—critical thinking, creativity, and communication—open diverse career paths. Ms. Odono and Ms. Elises shared how their education prepared them for success across different industries, emphasizing the flexibility and value of a Humanities background.
The session gave students a glimpse of the exciting opportunities ahead, showing that a Humanities education can lead to meaningful and versatile careers.




Commemorating the 39th EDSA People Power Revolution
On February 25, 2025, the College of Arts and Sciences History Department hosted a meaningful program at the CAS Garden to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. Led by Dr. Mary Josefti C. Nito and Dr. Sophia B. Marco, the event gathered numerous students, faculty, and staff in remembrance of this historic moment.
The program featured a special film showing that documented the events of the 1986 revolution, allowing attendees to relive the spirit of unity, courage, and hope that defined EDSA. It was a powerful reminder that the legacy of People Power continues to inspire the pursuit of freedom and democracy today.

Annual Humanities Program Internship Seminar Series 2024
The Humanities Program successfully conducted its annual Internship Seminar Orientation Series for 2024, a five-part lineup designed to equip internship students with essential skills, knowledge, and values before they embark on their professional journeys. These sessions are part of the program’s continuing effort to prepare students for meaningful internships by providing them with both practical tools and deeper awareness of their responsibilities as future professionals.
The series began with Part 1: Crafting a Strong CV and More by Ms. Janice Mercurio, HUM Program Officer, on October 2, 2024, where students learned how to effectively present themselves through their resumes and cover letters.
Part 2: Safe Spaces followed on October 16, 2024, with Atty. Ramon Cabrera from the School of Law and Governance emphasizing the importance of creating and respecting inclusive environments in the workplace.
On November 6, 2024, Part 3: Workplace Ethics and Etiquette was led by Dr. Maria Steffi Manhit of the School of Management, guiding students on professional conduct and the unspoken rules that define a respectful work culture.
Part 4: Walkthrough of the Internship Documents was held on November 13, 2024, with Ms. Janice Mercurio returning to assist students in understanding and navigating the necessary paperwork for their internship requirements.
Finally, the series concluded with Part 5: Internship in Government Institutions by Atty. Diego Luis S. Santiago, Assistant City Administrator of Pasig, on November 27, 2024. His talk offered students a glimpse into opportunities in public service and the impact of working within government agencies.
Through this series, the Humanities Program reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that students are not only well-prepared technically but also mindful of the values and ethics needed in any professional setting. The orientation seminars are held annually to support Humanities students in transitioning confidently and competently into their internship experiences and future careers.




Camp Kallos: First Humanities General Assembly 2024
On September 16, 2024, Humanities students, faculty, and staff gathered for Camp Kallos: First Humanities General Assembly, hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences’ student organization, Kallos.
Dr. Ma. Asuncion L. Magsino, CAS Dean, opened the event with an inspiring message, followed by Ms. Janice who shared important academic reminders. Dr. Joem Antonio, Humanities Program Director, later closed the program with words of encouragement.
The day was filled with fun games, delightful food, and shared moments that strengthened the Humanities community.

HUM Graduates Send Off 2024: Final Farewell
On August 17, 2024, the graduating Humanities students and CAS faculty came together for the first ever HUM Graduates Send Off 2024: Final Farewell! Hosted by the Humanities Program in collaboration with UA&P Kallos, the official student association of the College of Arts and Sciences, the event was a heartfelt celebration of the graduates’ journey.
The send-off honored the Humanities graduates — scholars shaped by critical thinking, creativity, and compassion — as they prepare to venture on new paths beyond the university. It was a memorable gathering filled with gratitude, hope, and excitement for the future.

Consilience Conference 2024: Narratives and Nuances
The Humanities Program proudly launched the first-ever Consilience Conference this year, marking the beginning of what will be an annual tradition of scholarly exchange and academic growth. Consilience Conference 2024: Narratives and Nuances offered a two-day platform where M.A. Humanities students presented glimpses of their thesis papers to the public — a valuable preparation for their final defense.
The conference featured research presentations from students Mikayla Babol, Elbert Banton, Francisco Pantaleon, Joaquin Ragudos, Matthew Molina, Tatiana Fife, Vier Barreiro, Raphaela Cordero, Christine Lara, and John Romuel Tena, with the event hosted by Zachary Magat.
Through a range of topics, the conference highlighted the diversity and depth of contemporary discourse in humanistic studies. It reflected the rich scholarly trajectories within the Humanities Program and celebrated the spirit of inquiry, creativity, and critical thought that define the field.























Academic Year 2023-2024
Humanities Internship Orientation with Atty. Ramon Cabrera (Part IV)
The final segment of the internship orientation took place on October 18, 2024, featuring Atty. Ramon Cabrera as the distinguished resource speaker. Atty. Cabrera, a faculty member of the Political Economy Program within the School of Social Sciences, Law, and Governance, delivered an insightful presentation. His discourse delved into the concept of Safe Spaces concerning internships, exploring the rights of employers, employees, and interns alike. The students actively participated in the discussion, offering real-life scenarios that might resonate with their upcoming internship experiences.


Humanities Internship Orientation with Dr. Laya Boquiren-Gonzales (Part III)
The 3rd part of the internship orientation was held on October 11th, 2023. The resource speaker was Dr. Laya Boquiren-Gonzales, Chair of the University of Asia and the Pacific Arts Department, an Educator, a Heritage Specialist, and a member of the 2023 MADE Board of Judges. On the orientation of the Work in the Cultural Institutions, Dr. Laya discussed the Typologies of Arts and Culture Leadership among the Humanities students. Students were able to learn more about themselves through the introduced tool by the speaker named Charter Skill Self-Assessment-wherein students will be able to distinguish their strengths, weaknesses, growth as a student so far and their aspirations in the future. Furthermore, various domains, components, particular path of industries, organizations and hubs were also shared and comprehensively discussed among the students. This is for them to gain an idea and background of their target companies or industries for their internship.

Last Wednesday, September 27, we celebrated Dr. Joem’s promotion to Associate Professor. The ceremony was held at ALB Dining Halls 1 & 2, followed by cocktails at Study Hall A.

Humanities Internship Orientation with Ms. Mika Aquino, 2019 Alumna (Parts I & II)
There were four parts of the said Internship Orientation: the 1st Part was all about How to Write a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae and the 2nd Part discussed the Workplace Ethics. The Humanities students, who are soon to be deployed to their respective chosen companies, took their opportunities to listen and ask relevant questions to their resource speaker who was also a Humanities Program Alumna of year 2019 and currently a Human Resource Advisor at the Shell Business Operations.







HUM Quest: The General Assembly
The first general assembly of the Humanities Program students for the academic year 2023-2024 was held on August 23, 2024 at the Telengtan Hall. The students were able to get to know each other, especially the freshmen for this term. Lots of fun and new experiences were shared among the students and the faculty members. The activity was organized by Dr. Pia Garcia, Ms. Jodi Ramos along with the whole Humanities Program Team and students.
