From July 1 to 9, Mr. Pio Pantaleon, an M.A. student of the UA&P Humanities Program and a teaching assistant in the Philosophy Department, participated in the prestigious Summer Residency program of The Hildebrand Project, hosted by Franciscan University of Steubenville. This esteemed program is designed for advanced students and scholars working on their M.A. theses, PhD dissertations, or other academic projects such as book chapters and journal articles.

The Residency aims to promote the personalist tradition and broaden the network of scholars focused on personalist philosophy, with a special emphasis on the work of Dietrich von Hildebrand. Participants have the rare opportunity to collaborate with senior scholars like John F. Crosby, Josef Seifert, and Rocco Buttiglione—who were themselves students and close collaborators of Hildebrand and Karol Wojtyła (Pope St. John Paul II).

During the program, Pio presented a thought-provoking paper titled “The Idea of Community in Dietrich von Hildebrand and Julián Marías.” His work provided a nuanced comparison of von Hildebrand’s concepts of value, virtus unitiva, and community with Marías’s notions of convivencia, vigencia, and society, offering fresh perspectives on the philosophy of community and social interaction.

We congratulate Pio on this remarkable achievement and commend him for his valuable contribution to the field.
